The Israel Core Course - Where learning comes alive

Israel is a vibrant, prodigious country – a wondrous merging of ancient history and contemporary achievement. TRY/USY High’s Israel Core Course takes students out of the classroom and lets them walk in the formidable footsteps of their ancestors along the pathways of Jewish history.

Interactive field-based classes are held throughout the country in such places as the mountaintop of Masada at sunrise, the rampart of the Old City at dusk, the maze of a Crusader castle, and the battlefield of David and Goliath. There is one full-day and one half-day field trip each week. Arranged both chronologically and thematically, these trips, combined with classroom study, provide a comprehensive history of Israel from biblical times to the development of the modern Jewish state.

The Israel Core Course is a field-based course, generally consisting of one full-day field and one half-day field trip (tiyul), and three additional classroom lectures each week. There are overnight tiyulim and project or seminar days to augment the course. The field trips (tiyulim) are enlightening opportunities to leave the school setting and get to know Israel in a historical context. The tiyulim are challenging and enjoyable and are a refreshing change in routine.

Hebrew and Judaic Studies

All students participate in an intensive, personalized Hebrew language program and have the opportunity to choose from a number of academic elective courses in Jewish Studies which examine issues in contemporary Jewish life through the study and consideration of classical and modern sources.
