“Our Green Land of Israel”
We are pleased to offer a unique program for those participants of Ramah Seminar with a serious interest in environmental issues in Israel. This pre-Seminar 8-day program, will focus on a wide range of environmental challenges, as well as the many unique “green” initiatives in Israel.. The program is being organized together with the Keren Kolot Educational Center of Kibbutz Ketura, in cooperation with the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies, the premier environmental education and research program in the Middle East.
Dates: June 21-June 28 (flight departure from the NY Area).
Cost: $990 over the cost of Seminar (A minimum number of participants is required).
Eligibility: All Ramahnicks eligible for Seminar can apply to Seminar Yarok. Admission will be based on the recommendation of the home Ramah camp director, as well as an essay to be presented at the time of application. Application deadline: December 31, 2010.
Highlights:
•Learn about the pressing environmental issues in Israel today
•Explore the Jewish values that are at the core of our understanding environmental issues
•Meet with leaders of environmental initiatives in renewable energy, sustainable building, organic gardening, and experimental agriculture (and gain hands on experience, and learn the Hebrew terminology)
•Build an awareness program for environmental responsibility to be implemented for all participants in Seminar
•Field trips and hikes throughout the area to highlight the challenges we face in creating a balanced and healthy environment
•Volunteer in a clean up project adopted by Ramah
•Seminar Yarok participants will interact with the international student body of the Arava Institute, learn about their experiences and visit their on site research projects as diverse as water resource management, noise pollution research, the Red-Dead Canal project and sustainable agriculture.
•This is a unique program that complements Ramah Seminar, enriching the overall experience in Israel
•A transcript can be provided for additional high school credit
